10 minute French Roll Hair do!...

Hey bloggers!

This quick hairstyle is great for short, medium and medium-long hair. Perfect this look with a flower or some other kind of embellishment down the line of the french roll. Also, although i didnt use any hairspray or moose, this hairstyle could benefit from some. Spray hairspray just before you secure the french roll (as opposed to right at the beginning) so that it dries in place. I decided to do the french roll to the side but again, this is just an option, you can do it in the middle, it looks just as pretty like that!

Thanks for watching, and dont forget to send any pics to tameyourmaneblogspot@yahoo.com

How to to do a fishbone plait step by step tutorial
  1. You will need: A comb; two hairbands; HAIR!
  2. Place the hair in to a ponytail using the comb and one hairband (this is optional, however, doing a fishbone plait without having put hair in a ponytail is somewhat advanced!)
  3. Separate ponytail into two even sections
  4. Grip the two sections with your two hands in a fist, with your four fingers gripping the hair, and your thumbs pointing upwards.
  5. Using your right (or left) index finger, section off a small amount from the far right hand side of the hair.
  6. Move this section over to the left hand whilst still gripping the two sections.
  7. Merge this section with the left hand section, placing it on the inside of the left hand section.
  8. Place your right thumb on top and apply pressure to the small section of hair, just crossed to ensure it doesn't move.
  9. Use your left index finger to section off a small amount from the far left hand side of the hair. This small section should be around the same size as the small section taken from the right hand side.
  10. Merge this section with the right hand section, placing it on the inside of the right hand section.
  11. Place your left thumb on the and apply pressure to the small section of hair just crossed to ensure it doesn't move
  12. Using your right index finger, section off a small amount from the far right hand side of the hair.
  13. Move this section over to the left hand whilst still gripping the two sections.
  14. Merge this section with the left hand section, placing it on the inside of the left hand section.
  15. Place your right thumb on top and apply pressure to the small section of hair, just crossed to ensure it doesn't move.
  16. Use your left index finger to section off a small amount from the far left hand side of the hair. This small section should be around the same size as the small section taken from the right hand side.
  17. Merge this section with the right hand section, placing it on the inside of the right hand section.
  18. Place your left thumb on the and apply pressure to the small section of hair just crossed to ensure it doesn't move
  19. Go back to step 5.
  20. Keep doing this until you feel as though you have finished
  21. Tie off the ends with a hairband/elastic (this is optional although it may not stay in without the hairband at the end)
  22. You have a finished fishbone plait. YAY!

Single plaits...switching it up

Sometimes I think it looks prettier to have single plaits with a diamond base rather than the average square base. I wonder what other interesting shapes we can try... How about triangles, or pentagons........ Anyone got any other ideas for shapes (hint, they must tesselate, I guess). I'll try them out and post pics for you all to see! Or even try them yourself and email me the pics to post!

The 'TameYourMane' Mission

It seems only right for me to begin this blog by saying: Thank you for visiting, and I hope what you find here is of use to you. Feel free to return whenever you see fit!

I feel it necessary to quickly introduce myself, and reveal the exciting aims of this blog.

Ok, so my name is Melody, and at the time of writing this I'm 20! For as long as I can remember, I've always enjoyed hair. Not necessarily my own- mine can be a right pain at times. But I enjoy styling others! Deffo.

Quick story- I must have been in about.. Year One, which means I was about 6! My friend L had a long, luscious mane, and she decided to let someone play in it one day. BIG MISTAKE. Because that person couldn't fix it back to how it was (I think it was in a pony tail with a plait and a hairband at the end.) Cut a long story short, she was bricking home time because she thought she'd get in trouble for letting someone play in her hair (you know, knits and all that). But who did she call for help. Only yours truly. I quick sharp fixed it back and her parents didn't notice!

So, for as long as I can remember: Hair, it's my thing (for anyone who watches BET)

Which brings me to the topic for this blog. I'm always doing people's hair, and for the past few months I made a decision to start taking photos to document my work. Mainly, I deal with Afro hair, often braiding or cornrowing. But I like all different types of hair, and doing different types of styles- thats just what my clients want, so I go with it!

So, over time, I will present the creative styles I have done, how long they take, some pics, some tutorials, perhaps...Who knows!

Take whatever you can from it, e-mail me with comments, requests, or whatever and I'll endeavor to respond.

For now, Live life, have fun, PEACE!
